75 DT250 throttle cable was created by Enduro nut

Im in a little pickle here! i cant seem to find the lower part of a throttle cable for a 75 DT250. Part number 498-26312-00-00 if im not mistaken. Unfortunately mine is all frayed but the top part that connects to the throttle tube is fine. There's gotta be someone out there making these?

Check with Enduronut or DEET...  maybe KDI..

HVC Cycle advertises a cable assembly but there was some discussion about the part numbers they list not being correct.  But if it fits, who cares?

For any Brits/Euros, Wemoto list a Slinky Glide one.

Sadly KDI does not have this, I wish Dave had a tab that showed what was in the pipe line next. I know hes in the process of adding more stuff i just dont know what lol. i got a few more places to check but if they turn up empty i will have to reach out to the other Enduronut or DEET. Is it just me or am i the only one who always seems to be missing parts that are tough to find?

Motion Pro can possibly make you one off of their specs list, if they don’t have the specs in their files of that particular cable they can usually make you one if you send in your old cable assy. as a template, they are on the pricey side. Also try Flanders Cables they sell all sorts of cables, parts, fittings and junction boxes, I’m not sure if they have a custom manufacturing division. Both companies are based in the U.S. I recently needed a obsolete cable and called all the motorcycle shops in my city to see if they could make the inner cable and solder on the ends, they responded as if I was asking them for a flux capacitor for the space shuttle, must be a lost art, as most new mechanics just seem to be parts replacers and wouldn’t have a clue on how to rebuild an alternator or starter. Motion Pro’s pricing was a little too high for my comfort, I ended up buying a cable repair kit on Amazon and watched a lot of videos on the internet on how to solder on the ends and made my own inner cable as my outer sheath was still in good shape.

I do the same thing.  Cable is cheap and easy to get.  I gave up looking for a reasonably priced source of ends to solder on and got a brass rod assortment and just make my own ends.

I wonder if Flanders has kits again.  When I spoke to them a couple years ago they seemed to be going out of business or something.  They didn't have much.

.
I do have a nos 500-26312-02 cable for the DT400, but not the 498 that fits the 250.

Even though these cables look identical to the naked eye, there is a reason for them having different part numbers.
The inner throttle cable is a bit longer on the DT400 cable, because of the greater distance the throttle slide has to travel between closed and fully open ... (not to mention the rubber cap being larger as well)

If you install a 498 series cable on a DT400, the throttle slide may not fully close, and the 500 series cable on a DT250 would tend to have the opposite effect ... not fully opening.   I've never tried the swap before, so I don't know if there's enough adjustment to make up the difference between the two.  Maybe

 ???

There's currently two 498 cables on eBay ... but be forewarned ... they may very well be worth more to the seller, then what your bike is worth to you!

I see those 2 on ebay and i just cant pay that much for a cable not when i can buy a parts bike for that much or less. As a matter of fact i scored 2 bikes for less then what their asking for just one of those cables lol. shes still in the process of being built so i have a ways to go before i can run her which leaves me time to shop. Hopefully KDI starts making these soon.

I know that most sites that have diagrams and list parts, show the cable and they are not in stock. With that being said I needed a handle switch for my CT3 ( hard to find) and I just started calling them all. MRcycles did a search for me and found one in Michigan and it was $200 less than ebay. So do your homework and don't get depressed. 1 will show up. I will spend some time looking as well. Good luck.

Yes, I wish I had a good Yamaha dealer near me still.  They can sometimes find parts that you can't find online.  They also have (had?) listings for brake shoes that all the online Yamaha parts places show as NLA.
