found a CDI box pic in which you can see the orange, black, & black white in one plug. But here's a regulator like IT enduro bikes run. Just google & there's heaps of similar ones.found a CDI box pic in which you can see the orange, black, & black white in one plug. But here's a regulator like IT enduro bikes run. Thanks RT! This is helpful. So the headlights run off AC?

Would the Trail Tech 7003-AC01 work? I've heard TT mentioned several times on here. If it will, how is it installed? Thanks for everyone's help!!

Ckjacks,

YES, it does.  It can ALSO (magneto doesn't care about voltage) run 12V H4 Halogen auto bulbs when you add the voltage regulator.  I've been using them on my RT-3 since 2013, and haven't blown a bulb since then.  If you do a search on the name Hammer on this subject, you'll find my solution and photos of my installation using the stock voltage rectifier mount bolt  Mine's adjustable also..

Yes your headlight is AC.  It's a great system from an era when semiconductors were rare and expensive.  Balances load against output to regulate voltage.  I've written several lengthy posts on how it works, not feeling well enough to repeat it again but sure you can find with a search if you haven't already.

Rt325 is correct about not hooking up regulator to blue to tail on (most) US models.  Just follow the service bulletin.

I didn't see this mentioned after you asked, but, the rectifier is a completely different part that does nothing to "regulate" the voltage. Basically the rectifier eliminates the "spikes" from the battery's charging circuit's alternating current (AC) voltage. The battery needs direct current to charge, so the rectifier does that by chopping the AC's voltage spikes.

Thanks, Mark. I did not know the headlight ran on AC. So, the regulator should be spliced into the blue wire in the headlight bucket?

Hope you feel better!!!
