Original Speedo Tachometer Faces was created by Free

I'm looking to fix the face of the tach and speedo and I noticed there are different faces on the speedos and tachometers. The original colors are questionable as well (black, grey, something else?) Does anyone know why?

The one I have in front of me has the Mileage and the MPH, yet when I found another part from the same year and model there is no mileage and the face is different. I would get it if it was kilometer vs miles...maybe the description is wrong.

Was the face originally black and faded in the sun or was is a blue-ish gray?
