1972 Dt250 stock pipe installation was created by murban

Hi when installing the stock pipe with #15 O ring on it into #14 should I put some string coated with high temp RTV along with #15 to get a good oil proof seal?
What do you guys recommend for a good seal there?

Thanks Mark

Welcome! from the UK.

#15 is not an 'O' ring as such, but a length of string gasket.

No real need to coat it in anything.

Did you dismantle #14 and clean it before reassembly? It comprises two parts just pushed together and others here have had leaks when trying to fit new string gasket on top of the old one.

I have used the " string " coated in Hi Temp RTV , and have been very pleased with
the exhaust seal . In my case it worked better than the " string " alone .

Thanks for your tip. I read that if the pipe is distorted the extra sting coated with RTV is a big help.
I will be glad to not see oil coming down and around the pipe.

I didn't know about it being a two piece until I read someone's thread about doing it. I must admit that I was a little wary about it and so used a wooden hammer, just in case!

Some photos of mine (off RT2) are attached.
