Applying decals was created by Bikenut71

I'm about ready to apply the Yamaha decals to my AT2 tank and this is something I've never done before. From what I've read, you first mist everything with water with a drop of dish soap added, apply the decals, then carefully squeegee out the water after I have them where I want them. Does anybody have any tips or suggestions before I tackle this step?
I've painted and cleared the tank, let that cure and my plan is to apply the decals, let them dry a few days then another coat or two of clear. Any help is appreciated!

I spray Windex window cleaner to the surface and position the decal. I try to get most of the Windex squeezed out, but if not, it somehow evaporates from under the decal. I don't quite know how the Windex gets out from under the decal, but it somehow does. This is my limited experience.

I just finished putting new decals on my XT side panels. And yes, I used a spray bottle with a dish washing soap and water solution. I'm thinking I used about a dozen drops of soap to 0.5 litter. My understanding is enough soap to break the water surface tension. I took that to mean enough soap to prevent the water from beading. Misted the panel and the glue side of the decal. Once in place I started from center working the decal flat, slowly working the wrinkles out with a soft cloth. Don't get in a hurry, they will work out. My instructions said not to be concerned with the small bubbles, they would disappear and they did. After sitting overnight all small bubbles were gone and decals were laying perfectly flat. I waited a few days to put the clear coat on. Hope this helps.

Am I wrong in my thinking that most decals from the factory are not clear coated over?

Best how too right here.... follow these steps exactly and works flawlessly. especially working around the compound curves and getting the decal to relax and lay down 100% flat

Thanks guys, for all the good info. I used the soapy water trick and they went on pretty easily. They've had a chance to dry for a few days now, so I'll give them a couple coats of clear and fingers crossed, call it good.

Don't know about some of the Yamaha stickers now, but other bike that we have done, clearing them makes the colors bleed.
Then its back to the drawing board.
