FYI I have been able to source CSL paint out of the UK but nobody in Australia has the recipe on their paint mixing system. Yamaha do but wont sell me the paint. And shipping of paint from UK to AUS is very costly.
Does anyone know how to blend this CSL paint please? I can get it mixed in Aus once i know the recipe.

I have also discovered that Yamaha still use CSL on the 2022 R15 which is on the showroom floor, but i still cannot get the paint.

So I have been looking into car paint that is very close to CSL.
As far as my dodgy eyes can tell, Subaru Ice Silver metallic G1U is very close. I have painted plastic spoons and held them next to the bike in the showroom and i cannot pick the difference.

I also note my Yamaha TW200 is a reasonable match but perhaps a bit darker- Yamaha Paint Code 0791 Silver #3 (S3).

I figure as long as every silver part on the bike is the same paint then it will only be evident to the most discerning eyes.

Thank you all for contributing to this chat - it has been most helpful.

This may help you . A friend of mine , here in New Zealand , was doing a restoration of a Kawasaki S3 triple .
He was having much the same issues as yourself . There was a colour match available at RS Paints in the UK , but
with dangerous goods regulations it wasn't possible , or practical to be able to get it .
RS suggested he buy a test pot of the colour , and owing to the small quantity involved , it was able to be shipped .
The test pot sample was spectro analysed  by the painter here , and they mixed up a batch for the job .
This might work for you .

thanks mate.
RS paints were the people in the UK that i mentioned.
Very expensive to get it to Aus as you've suggested.

So I wonder if anyone in South Australia has an original crystal silver DT front or rear fender (or head/tail light bracket) handy that we can get scanned and resolve this paint supply issue for everyone?

cheers

Since the 2022 R15 "on the showroom floor" has the same color, couldn't you get a few readily available silver paints, paint test pieces, and compare them in the showroom?

Also paint scanners these days are portable...  perhaps someone from a paint store or body shop will assist in obtaining a scan from an R15?  Or scanners aren't always too terribly expensive...  something like this:  www.nixsensor.com/nix-for-paint/
1963 YG1-T, 1965 MG1-T, Allstate 250, 1970 CT1b, 1971 R5, 1973 AT3MX, 1974 TS400L, 1975 RD350, 1976 DT175C, 1976 Husqvarna 250CR, 1981 DT175G, 1988 DT50, 1990 "Super" DT50, 1991 RT180, 2017 XT250

If you’re looking at Duplicolor (bomb can) and going to spray with a single stage air dried spray can the sheen won’t be anything like stock so you may be chasing color where the end result will be so different that even the exact color will look kind of odd.
after painting cars for decades I chose Chrysler PS2 which is a super common color, then there are several alternates of that color, one of which has rather large metal flakes in it and matches very very well to the DT fender, headlight color. I’m new here and haven’t been able to figure out the download photos but if you message me your email I can email you a photo of my fender to headlight pic to check out for yourself.

Actually I still have the can at home and could supply you with the correct alternate as well, if I remember correctly I had it mixed up in PPG.

I have been to the dealer colour matching the 2022 bike so many times i am on a first name basis with them.
If image upload can be made to work i will send some photos.
So far Subaru G1U is the winner.
thanks
