At last I got an answer from Yamaha France. This VIN concerns a 1973 CT3 produced for the french market. The problem is the documents they gave me mentionne a CT1 bike maybe regarding to the inscription on my engine. My question is : what's written on official CT3's engine ? CT3 + number or CT1 + number ?

Not sure if it's been covered here already, but Yamaha used the "1" after CT for the CT2 and CT3. Pretty sure that they did the same for all of the trail/enduro bikes of the time. For example, my 1972 RT2 has a VIN starting RT1.

Your VIN number is everything within the *s - ie CT1-300715. Here in the UK, I think that it was up to the original dealer who sold the bike new what they put on the registration document - some used the whole number, including the dash, some excluded the dash and others only used the six numbers after the dash!

If you haven't done so already, look out for European parts and Service manuals.

Thanks for the explanations. European manuals about CT3 are not easy to find. I will do my best to check again on the internet.

Try this! And he's in France!

I've bought a few items from him.

You're welcome!

As I said, I've bought from him before and he usually carries a fair amount of stock. Even if he doesn't have a manual listed, he might know where to source one from.

Once you get it, of course, you'll have to scan it to the Tech Library!!
