My New (to me) '75 DT125B was created by Vinduroman

Come Friday I'll be leaving to meet the seller (second owner) and take delivery of a '75 DT125B. The bike is all original (even has the tool kit!), in very good cosmetic shape, everything works, and only has only 740 miles on the odo. I'm so excited I'm about to pee my pants.

AS I wait for Friday, I've already stopped by the local Yamaha shop and picked up a jug of Yamaha 2S injector oil. (I will be draining the tank and refilling with fresh Yamaha 2S.) I intend to go over the bike to check several things before I take it out to the mountains. (And be out there 30 miles from the truck!)

I have a few questions I'd like to ask for any of you that may have an answer. They are:

* Is there an aftermarket air filter element available? (I figure the original is crumbly.)

* What Yamaha gearbox oil is recommended?

* What aftermarket gear box oil could be recommended?

* Does a '75 DT125B still have points, or cdi?

* IF cdi, okay to run a resistor plug in it? (I don't think non-resistor NGK 8 series are available anymore.)

Any input, advice, "watch out for" alerts, or "gotcha" warnings would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You might check with your local Yamaha dealer for both spark plug and air filter element while you're there picking up Yamalube for your gearbox. Autolite 4054 are a great replacement for the NGK B8ES, recommended by Mark T and work great in my DT2. I need to look for the Autolite replacement for the B9ES for my DT400. Sorry, don't know anything about the 75 DT125 so can't say if it's CDI...

Thanks Airbornesilva for your input.

Yes, I'll be hitting the regional Yamaha dealer of which the owner goes back to that era and has a lot of knowledge concerning same. He's away from the shop the rest of this week, so that will have to wait until sometime next week.

If I can get a product name for the Yamaha oil for the gearbox, I can pick that up here in town at my local Yamaha dealer.

I run Bel-Ray 75 wt Gear Saver in my European bikes and have some on hand... but I wanted to wait until I heard from others about their choices for gearbox oil.

Friday's getting closer.

Yamalube 10W-40 is what I put in all of my bikes. I don't think the 75wt would be too good on these old bikes but I could be wrong.

Yes, I'm open to experiential suggestions.

I "think" I remember using Yamaha Lube 10-40 in Wild Child's AT3, but that's been a while.

My local Yamaha personnel are all very young and simply have zero experience with vintage Yamaha products.

SO, it will be next week before I can touch base with Westark Yamaha's owner Larry (he's old school) to hear his input.

In the meantime I'm impatiently waiting for Friday morning to arrive so I can begin the 3 hr 15 min trip (but who's counting?) to meet with the seller and pick it up.

I hate waiting, I want what I want and I want it now!!!  BUT, the good Lord has a way of making me wait in various ways and for various reasons, I'm learning to just go with it and not fight it, as difficult as that can be at times...  As we say in the Army, one more day and a wake-up

Yes, patience is a virtue, it is said. But waiting still sucks.

I’ve stayed with the NGK resistor plug version of the B8 and 9 but replaced the plug cap with a non resistor style. Doesn’t seem to cause any issues. The is a specific NGK non resistor cap that is the correct length and connection for use without the screw on plug tip. I’ll look at my back stock for the number

BTW:

Uploaded the short video clip to YouTube that the seller sent me of the '75 DT125B I've committed to purchasing.YouTube published it as a "Short" (either that, or I selected something wrong during the upload process), but at least it can be viewed.

I don't see a way to embed a video here, so I'll simply post the link and hope for the best:
