Sounds like maybe you're trying to fit it onto the plug with the screw top still on the plug. Remove it then the cap will click down the plug top thread. Just a thought though, if you plug top doesn't unscrew then you have the wrong sort of spark plug.

A lzo5fm red ngk plug cap doesn't fit new

Straight kvas plug cap this fits but its broken

A small chisel, liquid wrench, and a careful tapping on upper left side (turning the screw counter-clockwise) should break it loose. Obviously find a new screw, and that should do it. I am a bit concerned about all the particles I see there - be sure your rotor is not worn, as it is also the points cam. Dr K

LB05F is designed to be used with the terminal unthreaded from the spark plug...  fits over threaded stud.

On some plugs the terminal is not removable but if those are your pictures it looks like yours is.

Just on most things I've worked on i always 
Left the terminal on..  anyway fits a treat with terminal off
