What are the options was created by Turbotim
Hi all
So im looking to time the bike..
originally was going to take it all out and do it all
properly but the screw was so rusted and rounded
just can't get it off.. so I attempted to time with out
taking it off but the points screw is literally half gone
On one side I can't get it off or even move a inch and I dont want to round
the bit that left off...
Any ideas anyone
Cheers

Screw extractor kit should be able to get the points screw off. Try to get one that has left hand drill bits.
It looks like most of the head of that stator screw is gone. One of mine stripped and I was able to get it out by carefully drilling the head off, then drilling into the screw shaft with a bit smaller than the diameter of the screw, then hammering a flat head precision screwdriver in, and turning it counterclockwise. However what's left of the head on your screw is so mangled, it's going to be difficult.
If it were me, I would try to finish drilling the head of that stator screw off, trying not to damage the stator plate, and then if you get to the shaft of the screw see if you can use a tiny bit to drill into it. Mine actually came out easily, but it wasn't corroded. I found an exact replacement screw at Ace Hardware, but if you can't get it out without damaging the threads, it shouldn't be too difficult to redrill and retap that.
In my CT1 that stator screw is a M6 by 1.0, I'll post a picture of it, and a picture of the shaft I removed with the precision screwdriver. The second screw in the picture is the other one that I was able to get out without drilling the head off.

I don't have any specific brand to recommend, but just do a search on amazon. In fact here's a set that Harbor Freight has for 10 bucks that has left hand drill bits.

You also might be able to get that stator screw head off with a Dremel or other rotary tool with the grinding attachment. Either way, the key is patience.

Put some Gibbs spray on your screws on your stator screw it will have to be drilled out for your points use a small needle nose vice grips should break it loose that’s the way I’ve done it worked every time for me

What i do never fails. With points screw get a flat screwdriver & angle it onto edge of the screw slot & one hit will start it turning. With the countersunk plate screws get a reasonably small flat punch & go around it to pull the metal back around the center area. Then get a new sharp impact tip, even a pozidrive just new & sharp & tap it in there good & hard then turn or actually hold against the direction of undoing--lefty "while tapping". If you have a hand held impact tool just click it onto lefty turn & smack it but don't force it left & it'll do it for you without you forcing it out of the screw. Mind you by the time you've given it a beating with the punch you'll likely turn it out by finger.
