I need flasher relay help! was created by Wandwuff

Okay so here's the deal. I redid all the wiring in my headlight so it cant be any of that, how ever, i did get a new flasher relay and didn't quite know how to plug it all in. so if anyone could tell me what colour goes to each letter? there's brown, black and brown with a line(i think). The way i plugged it in currently makes literally every light on my bike blink. Soo that's not right! pls help <3

What letters do you have on your flasher unit?

The wire purposes are:

Brown = power in to flasher

Brown/white = power out to turn signal switch

Black = ground (not needed or used with most modern flashers)

If you are using a modern aftermarket flasher you really only need a 2 prong.

Modern flasher uses X as the power in wire (brown) and L as the power out (brown/white) to turn signal switch.

The third prong on most modern 3 wire aftermarket flasher runs a dash light and is not a ground... not sure you have one of those because you'd have a direct short to ground when lights come on and that normally blows the fuse.

If you bought an original Yamaha replacement flasher then all the lights blinking can be a low battery or bad ground someplace. Try it with engine running and revved up and see if it makes a difference.

Not sure what you have... I've seen 3 wire flashers sold incorrectly as "direct replacement" for the Yamaha three wire and they are NOT the type with the ground. I bought one myself. The only correct three wire with a terminal as a ground I've seen are OEM NOS flashers... doesn't mean they aren't out there... I've just never found them if they are

The flashers with B, L, P terminals normally are:

B = battery = brown
L = load = brown/white
P = "pilot" = dash light (not used on Yamaha Enduro and not ground!)

Try the above and leave the P terminal empty and the black not connected to the flasher. If it works you will need to insulate the P terminal so it can't short on something,

Side note... Yamaha used a flasher with B, L, and E terminals... not P.

"E" stands for "Earth" aka ground. E is where the black wire would connect

Had this problem with my RT3, all the lights on but dimmed slightly. Turned out the front indicators weren’t earthing well through the handlebars, I’ve run an earth wire from the handlebars to the frame and the problem has gone. Hope that helps?

I converted to led turn signals and had to buy a new flasher off eBay, when I plugged it all in all the turn signals flashed at the same time, I pulled out the turn signal bulb in the tachometer and it worked like it should. Not sure if that’s your problem but worth a shot. I don’t have a light that says if I left my turn signals on anymore but at least they work
