1974 DT360A - grommet or no grommet? was created by Gr8uncleal

I'm slowly putting my DT360A back together and I was wondering if the locating lug on the airbox sits in a grommet within the hole on the frame? It seems to me like it should, but I couldn't see anything in the parts manual under either "intake" or "frame". A photo of the area that I'm talking about is attached.

I would imagine that the twin shock DT250s and DT400s up to 1976 would be the same.

Thanks.

Alan

Hi Alan, no grommet. My 250A has a piece of rubber tubing on the pin. And like you, I couldn't find anything in the parts diagrams that show it.

I was fortunate to still have the orig, but in sad/ useable shape. I reinstalled it after painting the frame, carefully & it is still functional. Like Kenny I would have fitted a piece of rubber tubing if that was all I could find. Good Luck...:Buds

Thanks chaps.

So the answer is that there may well have been one fitted originally, but Yamaha don't list it as a part?!

I have loads of rubbers and gromety type things lying around, so I can probably make a diy one.

Thanks again.

take a piece of fuel line that fits the pin tightly and is to large for the hole it fits in and take a cutting wheel and cut a groove in the gas line so it stays in place. Actually is better than new because the fuel line is more durable. I also stretch a short piece of clear fuel line over the rectangular pin that the side cover fits on. Done this on at least 20 bikes and works well. Not factory but effective

LOOKING thru my parts today I discovered I had 2 of these, AIR BOX MOUNTING GROMMETS, grommets. Checked out the prt no on e-bay & several are listed there. Cheapest NOS is $2.98 at Partzilla.com . You will find it on the 74DT175A part schematic under INTAKE.

Thanks for this info Steve, most helpful.

To be honest, that's what I would have expected to see on the DT360A parts list. However, nothing present.

I've managed to fashion a reasonably functional item from one of the old grommets etc that I have hanging around. When I get a moment, I will look for a genuine one locally (I am in the UK). Just checked, and it is still available from Yamaha for £1.66 ($2.14 at time of typing).

Thanks again.
