Hi guys, decided to get back on the DT175H and see if I can get her started.  Has good spark, compression and plug is getting wet so I know it's getting fuel but it wont fire, not even try.  What am I missing?  Thanks, Tony

Just flooded do you think, wet plug etc. Hold it wide open & kick or find a good downhill. Only problem is if she don't start ya gotta push it uphill home. What's its history--was it running when parked. Reminds me of customers coming in saying things like--can't be much wrong its only a motorbike--haha yeah right..

Hey Morely thanks for the reply, I live in Florida where the biggest hills are ant hills

I guess it could be flooded, I did hold the throttle wide open and kicked a few times with no success, not even a pop.  When I bought the bike it was in pretty rough shape, not much has changed, I did get it running but then shortly there after I got my DT2 which was running but needed a clutch and a few other minor things so I put the 175 off to the side and concentrated on the DT2, which I now ride regularly.  So, now that my DT400 needs a new crank (which I don't have the expertise or proper tools to split the case), it's back on to the 175.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it

make sure the flywheel key isn't broken, this would upset the timing
I have also convinced myself that the plug was wet with fuel only to find that a plugged pilot jet was the issue, so if all else fails give her a shot of gas in the carb to see if she pops

Thanks for the reply MSAVITT, I did pull the flywheel to check things out, all is ok there as far as I can tell, was going to time it but am confused as to how after reading the manual and studying it for a while I don't see how timing can be changed, anyway, I did spray some brake parts cleaner in the carb and got nothing, also sprayed it direct into the spark plug hole, nothing then I put in a different pulg (not new), still nothing but has great spark...  Oh, I also cleaned the carb letting it sit in carb clean for about an hour and half then blew it out real good with compressed air, also checked that I could see through pilot jet so it's not clogged.

When my CT-1 was flooded, it took quite a few kicks with the throttle wide open to get it fired up. It turned out later that my float was leaking, so I got a new one.

You time it by adjusting the points. There's a little chisel mark on one of the windows, and the points should just begin to open when the mark and a vertical tab line up. I initially did it just by sight, using a magnifying glass. Then I made a timing light, and I had it pretty much right on. I put the yellow tape on to help show where that mark is. When the points begin to open the light dims.

Tom, pretty sure it's cdi on the 175H.

Tony, how's the air filter?
Blocked exhaust?
When you were looking at the mag side did you check the crank seal?
As others have said could be crankcase full of fuel.
Speaking of fuel, is the gas fresh?

Good luck, Pete

When we were kids and had a bike that we knew ran but was hard to start we would have one of us on the bike, pull in the clutch and put it in 2nd or 3rd gear and have another friend or two push the bike as fast as we could then let the clutch out and bounce on the seat at the same time for traction and hold the throttle open and kept pushing till it started or we passed out from pushing the bike, it would start up burbling then clear out almost every time and would run fine until the next time it sat for a long time and got flooded again.
