I assume that you know that the headlight and meter illumination lights only work with the engine running and the ignition switch in the second position round.

If you do want to run the headlight, then either fit a 6v voltage regulator or use a 12v headlight bulb!

Battery drain is often a bad rectifier if the wiring correction doesn't fix it.
