At2 wireing issues was created by A.literal.forest

So I like just got my bike running to the point where I can actually enjoy it and then out of nowhere it just lost all power. I already checked and I'm getting voltage to the ignition switch, the switch works, and then I don't know where to go from there. Anyone have any advice?

Most common cause on the AT is that the battery simply went dead due to not charging.

You said you have voltage into the ignition switch...  do you have voltage out of the switch?  The brown wire out of switch runs pretty much everything on that model.

And you might show voltage "in" at ignition switch on the red wire and across the battery with switch off...  but with switch on the voltage at battery goes away.  That is likely a dead battery.

Yeah I made sure that I have voltage out of the switch and I had the bike hooked up to a battery charger so that is r my issue. I guess I'll trace the brown wire back when I get home later and see if it's anything along that.

This is going to be a stupid question cause I just thought about it, these bikes are 12v right?

Yes, unless someone has been messing with it.

Ok good cause some of the parts I was seeing on yambits were 6v and I just remembered that and had a heart attack. I would have cried if I fried my bike

If it's electric start it's 12 volt. Had to have voltage getting to the plug coil for a start. Should be a brown going in & i'm thinking an orange heading out to the points. If i'm wrong it'll be the other way around but still 12 [or whatever battery reads] there somewhere, but maybe a bit less on the points side with coil resistance--gotta be something.

Not sure about the AT models, but other parts of the world got a 6v version of the DT125 (ie 1974 on), with no electric start.

I just figured out today that the solder that holds the connecter for the fuse was broken and that's what was keeping it from starting. It looks like someone had been in there and had the same issue before. That or someone at the factory really just didn't know how to solder properly cause it was a mess.

I don't ever remember seeing a soldered connection on a stock fuse connector or wiring harness?

Aircraft mechanic told me years ago they mostly crimp wires and do not solder... he said soldered wires and connections tend to fracture and break easier than just crimping... (and yes, he said they don't crimp and then solder)
