I am going to err on the side of caution and order what MarkT recommends, it will be a one-time use but it beats buying more parts. I can only hope it holds like it needs to. Looking at a video of a Tusk version being used, the nut removal was effortless, at least compared to what I am experiencing. Its like this nut is froze. I have WD-40 on it.

A question, I might need to add a little heat? As in heat gun, not a torch.

Not left hand thread. 

Many people zip them off and on with an air or electric impact gun.  Normally you can hold inner hub with a gloved hand and zip it right off...  That's what I almost always do.  Can be tightened the same way.  Problem with that is judging how tight.  So I use the holding tool and a torque wrench to tighten.  But I have come across some that someone has overtightened that need a holding tool and an impact to loosen.  If not using gears to try to hold hub, not likely to damage anything with rattle gun.

I ordered the Tusk version of the same thing. Thanks for the recommendation. The Tusk version was 20 bucks, the MP version is 26. I will have it in a few days. For now the fork seals have been doing me dirty. I could not find the type of puller I needed. Got the "pry type" that did not work. Between my Dremel and careful cutting, got one out. The other one, the one that the seal had failed on, did not. I damaged the top edge of the fork, so a new to me fork is now needed.

Oh no.  Been there, done that.  Often the rubber dust seal will cover the chip so you might be okay?

Heat helps a lot with stuck fork seals.  I heat the area around the seal with a propane torch until seal is smoking.  Pries out easy then.  You could practice with damaged one. 

Others have made pullers but on the early forks I usually just end up ripping the seal to bits with a puller until there's nothing left to grab.

I wish it was as simple as that. I wrinkled the groove (bent the top edge inward) that the wire retainer set in to hold the washer that sets over the seal. Sad thing is, last week, somebody had a single lower tube on Ebay, it is gone now. I never noticed which side it was for though. Only full assemblies available now, both sides, minus the triple trees. Maybe another will show up.

The seal in the other tube came out ok using what tools I did. Added no more damage than what the first attempt did, a minor bulge above the seal, and not detrimental to the seat of the wire retainer.

Well, I finally got the clutch drum off, more on that later. For a while now I have been trying to locate replacement shocks for the rear, since the shafts are so rusted up, I figured new ones are in order. I am finding all kids of shocks that have an eye width of 21mm. I need an eye width of 19mm. Since it appears that none out there exist, is it possible/practical/safe to grind the sides off a little on each side to get them to the width that will fit? What have you guys done? I can't imagine this problem hasn't been encountered before. There is a place that claims they have new shocks for this bike, Yamaha Sports Plaza, out of Oregon, at $120 a shock, I would love to find a pair that works but not at that high cost, if they actually have them...

It won't hurt a thing to take a little material off each side of the shock bushing. I doubt you are going to find shocks that "work" for $240. Aftermarket performance shocks are well over $300 at a low starting point.

I didn't think it would hurt to take a little off on each side but I just wanted to make sure. The shocks that I've been looking at are about 70 bucks a piece and I don't think they are performance. They do have a reservoir and they are charged with gas but the issue has been to 21 mm with. I don't think I need any kind of a performance shock I just need something to keep the rear wheel where it's supposed to be and not up against the rear fender. Since my younger riding days were 30 to 40 years ago I don't plan on raising any hell on a motorcycle.
