It's not hard, but definitely takes practice. I've done probably a dozen wheel sets so far and honestly it's taken that long for the process to become somewhat routine. I spent time on the web reading up & watching videos before doing the first set. A buddy of mine homemade the stand out of angle iron with adjustable legs for the truing process. It's nice to have other bikes to use as a guide for spoke placement when lacing, layering, as well as determine L to R pitch. The hubs have "tells" for spoke direction, as well as the nipple placement angles on the rim, which help as guides, and for your sanity when things just don't look right. It's fun and therapeutic!

I was terrified of lacing wheels for years... Scootern29 talked me into trying it a few years ago... was WAY easier than expected and actually fun!

Rick if it's a CT2/3 guard, that's fine! I have a reed 175 cylinder for it anyway.

Since the last post, my son Shane has obtained his "learner permit" for Class M (good for a year), insured the little AT2, and we registered it in Vermont. He started RIDING it, everywhere!! He's loving the 125, longs for a little more get up and go, but we will put a 175 top end on at some point.

The biggest drawback was no oil pump, having to mix gas. That's just a real drag and he doesn't want to be hampered by strapping a bottle of pre-mix on the rear rack (yes, put an OE rack on it!).

I dug around, I've parted around 3 awful AT1/2 bikes over the years, and found a pump in a stash, and all the various bits and pieces behind the clutch cover. Ordered an HVC Cycle pump rebuild kit, injector hose from DEET, oil pump cable from KDI (all my thought usable cables were fraying and just junk), and set about making it all work.

The donor pump from an AT1 or an AT2.

During scattering, found the tiny ball under the outlet pipe screen was missing!

Checked my "inventory" and found one :)

After cleaning out thoroughly, soda blasting, and removing all leftover gasket shreds, time to re-assemble.
