Must be my luck. I once found not only a replacement headlight for one, but on another occasion, I found a glass lens (which is separate) for an AT-1E where I had a busted lens. And both were reasonably priced.
Shoulda bought a lottery ticket about then, I guess.

All ours in NZ were of the replaceable bulb type on 'all' models 6v or 12v so pretty lucky in that respect. Still had 'fun' with cheapy bulbs that crept into the spares department, not well made & giving terrible light pattern. There's a correct distance for every bulb to focus it but of course they're non adjustable but comparing bulbs i could pick which ones were the good ones at work.
Anyway, was going to say be careful to have the battery working or you're new headlight will blow. Assuming its 6 volt being a CT1. Not sure if a single wire bulb saving regulator has been mentioned, but is a good idea.

Only the AT had the smaller headlight, CT had the same size headlight as the DT and RT.

Smaller AT version with replaceable bulb seems to be relatively easy to find.  Early DT models had the replaceable bulb reflectors too but a lot harder to find.  Bulb holder part is not as easy to find for either.

That is good to know. I thought I had purchased a CT shell that was the same diameter as my AT, but it has been a long time since I did that.
IF it isn't one thing, it's another.

Never knew that. Thought all AT & CT's were the same & DT grew up. Good info.

Good point Mark, and worth repeating, thanks.

From my own point of view, my starting position is that the headlight is crap anyway and I would have no intention of taking the I am starting from the

The part number for the early DT/RT headlight with the replaceable bulb facility is 214- 84120-61 - see photos.

Given that MarkT says this is the same size as the CT light, but CMSNL says that the CT and DT/RT didn't share the same headlight part number, I would imagine that any difference in the part numbers is due to the wattage printed on the inside of the lens (25/25 for the CT?).

If, as I suspect, the details printed on the lenses is for user info only (eg don't use a 6v bulb in a bike with a 12v system) and doesn't affect the performance of the headlight, provided that the correct type of bulb is fitted, then there are probably many lenses out there that could be fitted. As well as the different Yamaha models, Koito also supplied at least some of the other Japanese manufacturers.

What you will need to take care with, particularly in the US, is that all the gubbins relating to the beam direction is the same. Saying that, if you bought a replacement rim that matches the new lens, then that is not a concern, but make sure that the rim locating screw hole matches up with the one in the headlight bowl.

yep well done & didn't want to be the one to spoil the party & mention set the lines vertical. Should be a little lump on the lens to locate in a notch in the rim but something of mine recently i noticed had turned with vibration & didn't have a bump on the lens or notch in the rim so added more clips. Depending on bulb type--if it locates right in with one guiding piece on the bulb then can't go wrong. But if--like on a DT1 it's the bigger bulb fitting in a rubber socket i think it's possible to get it 'not right' but wouldn't be easy to do, but could miss the locating bits on the lens pulling the rubber over. Might be talking rubbish--it's been many years since fitting the rubber socket. Anyway--you've fixed it, that's the important bit.
