What are your comments on the "EXTREME" BLACK CHASSIS GLOSS VS BLACK CHASSIS GLOSS?

I have read the extreme is some tough paint. I used it on my seat pan as a test. I thought it came out ok.
I have not, but plan to spray the frame next.

Good that you have tried the "Extreme" flavor-   I have not

This is what Eastwood details with the Extreme
"3 times more resins make it 3X more durable than our original Chassis Black coating. This maximum-durability, 85%-gloss auto chassis paint formula offers improved resistance to brake fluid, fuel, solvent, chips and scratches".

Sounds like it would be almost bullet proof and would be a good choice... I just know the regular Chassis Paint in Black that I used on mine provided Excellent results and the finish looks as good as one of Power Coated frame... so I am good with that.

Per Eastwood- Original Chassis Black Gloss is the perfect coating at the perfect price for any under car component.
  • Resists corrosion, chips and scratches
  • Resists brake fluid, fuel, solvents, UV
  • Matches OEM finish
  • Apply multiple coats without lifting
  • 85% + Gloss Level
If it ain't smokin', it's broken!

Dang.... Your right!

I did not even realize I had bought / used the Extreme on the 71 DT1MX bike...  was not even aware there were two different ones until you mentioned it as I was just focused on the "chassis Paint" detail.

SO.... The Extreme did work very well... I will use the regular Chassis paint on the Mini Enduro's since these bikes will not be daily riders of any sort- to see how it works and if it comes out as good.

With this new discovery-  I would go with the Extreme on any rider bike for sure...  Thanks pabdt

“Tank Stripe... have never done this before and it can be a slight challenge to get the exact line... to many time see folks go to all the time and expense to paint and then there is the stripe staring at you that just kills it!  It has to be perfect”

Oh man ain’t that the truth….. I did OK on the left side and blew it on the right side. It bugs me every time I look at the right side.

Finding a little time here and there to make continued progress on the Two JT1 Mini's!

My first goal is to attack the Tins- to get them to a final stage ready for Primer- Base Coat and Clear Coat.  I found a line of Paints (new to me) and from what I read are really DYI user friendly in Aresol Cans producing high quality results... More on the line of Paint that I will be using soon.

So- first was to start with the Gas Tanks... One of the tanks was not in bad shape other then a few dings and some areas of pressed in.... The other tank suffered some damage in it life... but I have sure seen worse- Both will fix up nicely.

I bought this Dent Puller Kit off Amazon-  I was suspect that this thing would actually work but to my surprise it does a pretty amazing Job in pulling a large dent out to a much smaller where body filler can easily finish it off.

It comes with a Hot Glue Gun and many long glue sticks- along with many different tabs you can attach / use depending on size and depth of dent... Just Hot Glue on in place... Let it set to allow the Glue to completely harden...

Then hook this tool or you can also use the Slide Hammer that comes with the kit... and slowly just keep applying presure and you will see the tank flexing in the dented area.

After:

So to start this whole process... I went ahead and Stripped all the paint off the tanks and Fender to get them down to bare metal and then marked up the bad spots to start the first layer of filler... 80 grit scratch marks in the damaged areas so the filler will adhere.

Time to mark up the dents and prep Filler

Body filler / work is now done and everything is prepped for next step- High Build Primer

So today got everything wiped down and got the High Build Primer sprayed on---

I am using the Alpha Paints on this project.  Heard many good things about their products and to have Aerosol Cans for everything makes it super easy!

I will be using their High Build Primer-  1K Epoxy Primer Sealer- Base Coat Colors and their 2k Gloss Clear Coat-  Looks to be a solid program and the Spray cans are outstanding... just like a spray gun.

All set now with High Build Primer- will do the final blocking / sanding using a guide coat to make sure there are no remaining low spots-

Then I will be ready for the 2nd step to apply the 1k Epoxy Primer Sealer product to lock everything down and leave a perfect surface for the Base Colors-  Found the Perfect Red and White paints to match the OEM color.

" thought I would take some time to practice laying down the Tank Stripe... have never done this before and it can be a slight challenge to get the exact line... to many time see folks go to all the time and expense to paint and then there is the stripe staring at you that just kills it!  It has to be perfect"

Greg I'm the same when it comes to the pinstripe.
I've never done a JT1, but I've done a few others, is it 5.5mm wide like the other models?
In my view the curve coming over the top meets the horizontal on the seat end of the tank creating a 90 degree angle.
At the seat end if you struck a vertical line from the inside of where the points meet, the curve never goes past that point and the angle is always decreasing.
Here's a photo from the JT1 brochure for reference.
Good luck with it.
