I have read somewhere of a zero miles 68 DT1 being insured for $20k. I think it was museum quality and from memory may have been Tom White's in his museum. The article was several years old.
If this is legit the speedo should have a cutaway section on the bottom to allow for hand room when venting the fork cap. It's possible that the fragile knob was broken in storage but ..........

So there are some more pictures taken today. Also have the original title made out to Jim Moon Yamaha that says it is a '68 and the VIN number is DT106###. Plus it has all the original paperwork, manuals, etc with it. If anyone doubts the story behind this bike they can travel to Springfield, MO and meet with Jim's wife and kids and see an amazing collection of Yamaha material that came from their Yamaha dealership that they had for nearly three decades. The Moon's sold several bikes today to the local Yamaha dealership that is owned by the O'Reilly Automotive family (yes, O'Reilly Automotive is based here in Springfield for those that don't believe this).
So hopefully this makes everyone a little more at ease and realize this isn't a scam or anything of that nature. So thank you for your previous comments, review the other pictures and let me know if there is any additional information or pictures you would like.

Not a scam, uploaded more pics for you and everyone else. Please review and request more information if it helps you determine what you think the value might be.

Here is a photo of the fork cap with the cutaway on the bottom of the speedo. Can we get a photo comparison. Cheers.

1st of all, WELCOME to the site, and thanks so much for posting those pictures
I thought we might scare you away with all of those comments
Let me introduce myself as being one of the worlds leading experts on the 68 DT1
I don't say that to brag . . . I say that in hopes that you will listen to what I'm about to say.
What you have there is a very nicely restored 68 DT1
I'm sorry, I know that's not what you want to hear!
Would you still like to know it's approximate value?
I'm not even going to attempt to point out everything that I can see wrong about this bike . . .
I don't need to, I'm sure most of the 68 DT1 enthusiasts here, will catch most of the errors made in this restoration, and there are many!
This is not in any way, an attempt to make you look bad . . . but the story you were told is false.
It's easy to believe anything, when you want to.
If you have questions about it, the folks here are quite willing to help
Please stick around, and enjoy the site!
.
BTW . . . Tom Whites $20K bike that Kenny mentioned . . . is also not an all original example, but I doubt he'd want to know that,
People that know me well, know that I don't usually say something that I'm not prepared to back up . . . but yes . . . I can and do make the occasional mistake.
