Person before me used a screw driver to open his tank, but I restored it as best possible. You are welcome to it for the cost of shipping. Lock is in California.

This lock will work with your ignition key. In fact, its not really a lock at all, just a spring loaded twist closure for the lid. The only tumbler was damaged and removed. Your ignition key will work with this with a tumbler if you add one or without.

Closer to home, look out for a cheap complete but trashed tank, but with this hardware still present (I bought a trashed TX500 tank, just for the cap and lock for my RD250).

I think that the 1974, 1975 and 1976 DTs shared the same parts, but obviously have a good look before buying.

Don't worry if no key, as you can buy repro replacements - you just need to quote the number shown on the cover, right where the key is inserted.

Does that mean you have a lock, but are just missing the key?

Here in the UK, keys can be obtained through ebay, a bike dealership or a master locksmith and the cost is usually under £10.

If I remember correctly, the cap locks don't have a full set of tumblers and often several keys will fit...  so if you have any other Yamaha keys (or any that fit in the lock), might be worth trying them.

Also I remember reading someone had removed the tumblers from their cap lock so any key would fit.
