Hey thanks! Greetings from Michigan!

It's slipping out of 2nd and out of 5th. I know the 5th gear slip is common.

Edit: it's a ct1 with a gas tank from a CT3

Check the tech library on this site for a service manual probably has some information on how to adjust and test your transmission

2nd and 5th are on the same shift fork.

End of shift drum (under external 3 bolt cover) not snapped off? Retainer and shim in place (#15 and #16 on the "Shifter 1" parts diagram?)

I'd better go look at a parts pic i'm thinking DT1 layout but i'm sure they're all the same design.
So hang about as might be apologizing [again] now i've posted all below while tired & grumpy.
Ok i'm awake now & thinking right.
Center fork slides gear 5 left & right for 5th & 4th [sitting on bike referring to left & right].
Second & third are controlled by the other fork moving gear 18 left & right for second & third.
I'll find a pic but here's the link.
www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/motorcy...70/ct1b/transmission

I agree with Mark, my first thought is the end broken off the selector drum caused by the chain bunching in there if it broke or got derailed.
Under the three screw cover as MarkT says.
Second & 5th gear are on separate forks though--not the same fork [insert argument here lol].
Center fork runs fourth & fifth, while left fork runs second & third
.
Second & fifth are both caused by gears engaging by moving to the left.
Therefore if the end brakes off the drum it can move to the right & if that happens ya lucky if it doesn't try to lock up.
Jumping out of 5th i wouldn't say is common on those, but there's a pressed on gear on the main shaft which drives second below & 'if it moved sideways' [very unlikely] it would let 5th gear next to it move away that slight amount.
