Thanks for posting! I am just finishing up some tuneup work on a '73 RD250 myself so this was a bit inspirational.

My son rode the Rd250 back and forth to high school in the late '90s and was quite pleased to do so.

found a 350. is ok shape, NO TITLE. Waiting to see if he can produce any proof of ownership. I've done this dance w/Calif DMV a few times. They usually step on your toes.

Tidy bike, but ditch the back rest!

The speedo looks like it's from a 1974 model and obviously some screws/bolts replaced by allens.

I'm weak on knowledge about those RD350s but rapidly trying to catch up.  Thanks for catching the 74 gauges and no telling what else. Yeah, I hate that seat rest and I wonder what happened to the turn signals. I thought it might make a good project, but decided against it for now. Owner has not responded to my request for verification of ownership.

I found another 73, only about 4,000 miles and it is very clean and ready to ride.

This guy has interesting videos of the RD350 build:

Interesting videos: believe a 1974 but that tank looks awesome.  must not be a U.S. paint scheme. last video.

The purple tank does denote 1974, at least here in the US.

On the '73 RD250 my son and I have, I got a DYNA electronic kit, which is essentially a pair of electronic triggers that replace the existing set of points. I was initially confused by the timing setup, as you set each cylinder at the 2.0mm BTDC, and with the battery in and key on, move the trigger until the spark plug fires, and tighten the screws. I kept wanting to rotate the engine back and forth to check, as I would with the points, but it's really not possible (or at least I found it very difficult).
As luck would have it, the bike ran just fine for about 30-40 miles, and then, just as my son was on his first ride on it, it went on one cylinder.
Investigating it, swapping leads back and forth, etc., I could get not get the right side to fire again. My local shop told me they had had DYNA problems in the past, which was dismaying. At any rate, the OEM point sets are back in and I hope to get it back running. May have to spring for the VAPE after all.
