Removing that "cream" tank sealer was created by AirborneSilva
What can I use to remove the cream tank sealer without destroying the paint on the outside of the tank. The tank on my CT2 is in near perfect condition outside but someone decided to put that darn cream sealer in it. I want to remove it to see what the inside of the tanks condition is, I might just be able to put rust remover in there if the rust is bad enough.

Tricky decision, Tony.
If the sealer is intact and not deteriorating, then maybe leave it for the time being?

That's probably the wiser choice Al, I'll just keep an eye on it!

Leave it alone if it's not leaking. I have cream tank sealer in 3 of my bikes. It had only failed on one after almost a year, but that tank was the worst I've ever seen and I didn't expect it to work at all. My CT2 has a red color tank liner in it from the previous owner. I have a good spare on the shelf just in case. The CT2s are great bikes!

I did a CT3 tank that the cream was peeling bad. Pressure washed and got out most of it out but still plenty that was attached pretty good. Removed the rest with acetone without damaging the paint. Put a snug piece of pvc (soaked it in acetone to make sure it wound not dissolve it just softened a bit). Sealed pvc with peel-able silicon and submerged in a tote of water. Able to swish it around be rocking the tote. 5 hours cleaned it all out and then did my normal vinegar wash. Tank was great after and should never been sealed.

Goatboy- That is a REALLY clever solution to this problem. Saving decent original paint is a common goal for many. I was in a similar pickle a few years back and wound up sending the tank to Fueltank services (who did an amazing job using a proprietary reverse electrolysis procedure to remove, and then actually re-line the tank).
I really think had I thought of your method that I could have done a lot of that myself.
Good job, and thanks for sharing!
Kudos to you!
