You might or might not.  Plus points don't always spark.

That’s very fair. So what’s my best shot at getting this thing going? Where do I start?

Here's a link to multiple pages to do with similar to yours. I did various videos on my running 175. I got a bit bamboozled putting the videos up & one vid on i think next page is with a peak meter so reading double. have a read & look maybe earlier & later pages & at least it shows some results spinning & i think running too. Was a long time ago.

I'm typing on the wrong page damn it.
Getting confused, but this one--if ive not put it up--is turning over i guess with plug cap off but plug in place--compression to spin over on the kick start.
Meter would be tucked into the black at the coil. Think i saw a still shot of that.
Regardless, you should get plenty out of the black when unhook from the plug coil & spinning it, or about what it show here in the video being hard to kick over due to compression plus it's hooked up to the plug coil.
I suppose bottom line--this is what you'd expect in voltage to run it kicking it over under compression no matter what size motor with a points mag.

Hey all,
sorry for the delay, I’ve been tooling around with this and finally ended up getting spark. I replaced the condenser but still didn’t end up having spark. I adjusted the points again, still no spark. So I ended up ripping an ignition coil off of a Honda that I have in the garage right now, the coil with the condenser built in, hooked it up and BAM, a good strong spark. Dont know if that means something else isn’t working but the brand new China coil I was using doesn’t work for nothin. Gotta ask around a couple buddies and see if they have anymore Honda coils I could steal off them.

I like Hondas idea of condenser at the coil. But--does it run!!. Sounds promising.

Here is a link to one of the "universal" Emgo coils that many have had good luck with, including myself.

Not clear if you removed the stock condenser, if you did, then you can add one at the coil or if stock condenser is in place, you're fine.

One reason I didn't recommend replacing the original condenser is new aftermarket condensers are sometimes crap too.  More than once I have "fixed" a Yamaha points magneto by going back to the original components that someone "replaced"...  last time I soldered back the original condenser and installed the original points the owner hung onto after a shop gave it a "tune up" with really cheesy looking aftermarket parts and lost the spark. After I sent ignition back, he still didn't have spark until he re-installed the original coil the shop had also replaced.  Most common issue by far I've seen is simply dirty points...  even brand new ones can get a coat of invisible non-conductive corrosion on the contacts.

Could be a bit confusing for the unwary where they say 6/12 volt universal & only one wire in which is AC voltage.
Just hope no-one goes plugging DC into it.
Mind you were talking magneto ignition so cant go wrong.
Maybe it explains more in the fine print.
Lets hear if it runs? just as it is now considering you have a 'good strong spark'.
Spark should be quite concentrated & not all over the show which can happen with no condenser but won't fire under compression.
Hope yours is a healthy 'ready to go' spark.
