Hello! I am trying to do up the wiring for my 69 at1, and I am having trouble figuring out the electric start.

Since pictures are not working I have linked to a Google drive with pictures I will reference. , there is a blue and white wire, and a red wire where do these go? It also looks like there are two screw mount terminals, how about them? The wiring diagrams show more than two connections. I also have two wiring diagrams, and they seem to show different numbers of connections for the starter, wiring diagram 1 shows 4 connections, and wiring diagram 2 shows 3.

I basically need to know where does ground go, where does battery power go, and where does the connection to the stator/rotor/generator go, to my starter, and if there's a fourth connection that needs to be made somewhere.

Thanks!

Here's the factory service manual, there are wiring diagrams, not sure if you've already got these.

Without pictures or a better description of where you are trying to connect the wires, kind of hard to help much.

Here's a old pic of the stator from Capt Dave that I added notes to that might help.

Blue & white will be start button for the button to earth out & activate the solenoid to in turn activate the starter generator.

For photos, use a third party host such as Imgur.

Is your switchgear intact, or do your problems start further down the circuit? In general, wires will only connect with other wires of the same colour - eg your blue/white will connect to another blue/white in the headlight bowl.

Sorry if I've misunderstood your problem!

It's important to note that it's a generator-starter...  basically TWO devices sharing the same rotor.

One set of brushes and coils connect to the regulator and make the "generator".  The F (field) and A (armature) wires are used in this circuit...  power to the field energizes the magnetic field and allows the spinning rotor to make electricity.

The M (motor) wire goes to the starter solenoid.  Battery power is applied to this light green (heaviest gauge) wire from the solenoid and uses a separate set of brushes and coils to spin the rotor and make an electric motor.

Other than using the same rotor, they are basically separate circuits. Most common starter failure point is the brushes...  and it's pretty simple.  Battery power connected to the light green M wire should make a motor.  Solenoid is the heavy duty relay that applies battery power to the M wire when the starter button is pressed.

The orange wire is the points wire for the ignition system.

There are three parts and three wires for the starter circuit.

Starter solenoid has a red from the battery, a light green to the motor, and a blue/white to the starter button.

Pressing the starter button grounds the blue/white which engages the starter solenoid and connects the red to the light green.

Stupid me read that 'Mark' as light green & thinking NO its a heavy green--it'll get fried when pressing the button. Started typing then went UGH, light color green not light gauge haha. So its a heavy light green. Back in the box for me. All good.
