1970 DT1-250 Rear Wheel Bead Spacer Question?

Hello, I have a 1970 DT1-250 and the rear wheel was fitted with two bead spacers, however when checking the parts book, it shows only one bead spacer is used P/N 214-25394-00. Can anyone advise which is correct ie; 1 or 2 bead spacers should be fitted? Thanks

Are you talking about rim locks or bead locks?  Basically a block inside the rim with a stud going through the rim with a nut on it.  It keeps the tire from slipping by clamping tire bead to rim. 

Many off-road bikes used two rim locks on the rear. If it didn't have two originally a replacement rim could have had holes for two locks.  (Original Yamaha steel rims often have a date code stamped near valve stem hole which can help tell if rim might be original.)  Sometimes people drilled a hole to have two if they only had one originally.  You can usually tell if one of the holes was drilled later by an owner.

Not sure what part list you looked at but manual says two rim locks on the rear and one on the front.

Thanks, I was going to include a photo showing the actual hole locations of the Spacer Beads in the rim, however I can't upload a photo which seems to be a problem with the website. Just to clarify my first comments, my rear rim did have two "Spacer, Bead 214-25394-00 " fitted when I removed the tyre, however my Yamaha DT1- C Yamaha parts book only shows 1 Space Bead fitted. I will check the holes in the rim again. I assume there are no problems if I refit the two Space beads back in the rear rim again?

Should be fine.
My RT1 had two on the rear and one on the front.
As I rode it a lot on the road, I had the wheels balanced as the rim locks put them out of balance.
If you're riding off road then it's not really an issue.

My '68 DT1 has one rim lock on the the rear wheel. It is 180 degrees from the valve stem. The rim has only 2 holes.

My original unrestored '71 DT1E has 2 rim locks on the rear. They and the valve stem are 120 degrees apart.

Not sure what year Yamaha made the change.

I balance the wheels on my regular riders that I ride on the street.
The hours spent riding my Enduros is not deducted from my life span.

I don't know what that year/model had originally...others have responded.  But like I said, two on the rear wheel is very common and it will not hurt anything. 

(I like to replace the stock ones with Motion Pro Lite Locs...  save a lot of weight and easier to balance wheel)

Interesting on the 68DT1 rear with only 1 bead lock. I have 3 or 4 68 dated rears and all have 2 bead locks. The early bikes used a type of thick cloth riveted to steel. The stud was longer and smaller diameter. Used on both front and rear. Later ones were rubber over steel and had slightly thicker and shorter stud. All styles I mentioned were OEM Dunlop bead locks/spacers. I’ve got several sets of each style and have stayed true to OEM on my 68 DT1 restoration.
