Lend me your ear! How is she sounding? was created by BubbaSendsIt

Here is a video I created to get some feedback from more discerning ears. She doesn't sound perfect but how bad do you think it is? I am not planning any restoration work for now, just stuff to keep her running around the neighborhood and on the paths behind my house.

Background:
Mad Maxine is a 1972 DT2 I got in mostly running condition last fall. 5,800 miles. Everything original when I got it and all I have done is replace both brake shoes, replace a couple leaky fuel lines, new spark, new sprockets and chain, tried to fix the leaking petcok several times but all new ones leaked worse than original so original with very slow leak is still on. Still wearing the original tires hat are hard as a rock but seem ok somehow. Tires are on my radar to replace awaiting budgetary approval.

Hmmm looks like my video did not upload properly. Should I make a youtube link? I thought I saw people post videos before but I am having some technical difficulty.

I uploaded the video to Youtube. Was unable to figure a simple way to convert the .mov file into a forum recognizable format. Sorry for delay hope this works for all.

Thanks for listening!

In my opinion , she sounds fine . Idle set a bit high , but plenty of life left in that motor .

Nice bike!

Just FYI, there isn't any "forum recognizable format" for video.  They must be hosted someplace else and linked here.  One thing the software does that's cool is it automatically embeds the video into the post by simply posting the youtube link.

That is very nice to hear. Thanks for the sound check. The idle issue might need to be it's own post. She typically fires right up on the first kick when cold. Runs for a while nicely then starts to want to stall out on me. I can fight this by keeping some rpm's on the tach. I have driven home pretty far before when it got like this just by riding the clutch as needed to keep the rpms up. If it dies like this it usually doesn't want to restart until it has cooled. If I tighten the idle screw all the way like it is in the video it will hold steady in neutral while hot. If I lower the idle it will be fine cold after a couple minutes once it warms up it dies out unless I keep the rpms up a little with the throttle.

That is a cool feature and a good easy workaround. I think the flaw in the UI and my source of confusion is that if you do upload a non-compatible file type instead of giving an error it shows it as uploaded correctly.

Your bike sounds fine to me. I have a 73 DT3 and was hearing things when I went riding. I was always wearing my full face helmet from start up. Well, I took it for a spin without the helmet and it sounds fine. The helmet seems to block some sounds and amplify others? It is amazing how much the sound differs when I am riding my CB175 or S90 without a helmet as well. Ride on!
