If you can, just make sure that the small hole is clear, otherwise operating the valve will have no effect!

A member here actually made their own reproduction cover.  Might be worth trying to contact and see if more can be made.

Mark Scott used a rubber pipe cap...  Fernco brand if I remember correctly...  from Home Depot as a reasonable replacement.

Nice. I've ordered a pipe cover similar to the one shown. When it arrives I,ll give it a try and see how it turns out and let the forum know.

Update on tacho cable. I sourced one from Wemoto on the advice of Yamaha owners club after getting accurate measurement on here. Thanks again for that. Anyone interested, part nos. AC 3665 or AC 4245. Only one has the heat shield spring, but I fitted one from a XS 650 restoration I did a few years back.
