Yamaha jt1 paint type was created by Starty

Can anyone tell me the type of paint sprayed on the jt1 yamaha during manufacture ( acrylic lacquer, or enamel) doing a accurate restoration.

Couple of JT-1's for sale here in Reno on craigs list, he wants $1700 for the pair. Guess my parents couldn't afford the yamaha when I was a kid so I got a mini bike, only saw one in person back in the day. Think cheap paint, probably an enamel on the originals.

If you have anything with original paint, rub it with a rag dipped in lacquer thinner. If it's enamel, rubbing with lacquer thinner will damage/remove the paint fairly easily.

If paint is lacquer, rubbing with lacquer thinner will take some color off with effort.

(Old trick we used when I worked at a buddy's body shop during college. Lacquer paint was common in the 60's and 70's... and maybe into the early 80's... If you ever tried to spray lacquer over enamel you'd know why we tested.)
