74 DT 100 was created by Jack

Whatdyathink guys?
I've been looking around for next project. I can get this 74 DT 100 for $420. He's been standing firm on $475 but just got a message from him saying he'd go down to 420. Supposed to turn over and have good compression, Missing carb to airbox boot, throttle cable, silencer, coil and cap, and one foot peg. He thinks everything else is there but says that p o had put a liner in tank which was coming loose so probably will need a new tank. Not really what I was looking for but it's pretty tempting.

Well I can tell you that I got my 75 DT100 for $450 in the condition shown. It too was not running and was missing a few parts. I got it running and made it an off-road version. It's one of my favorites bikes to ride around the house and on the local dirt roads.

I would get it. I got one in similar condition and after fixing it up, it is one of my and the family's favorite.

Thanks Schu and Jay. The tank worries me. I'm guessing they are at least as scarce as the 360 tanks are and just as expensive if I did find one. I don't doubt for a second I'd have a lot of fun with it. ( I have a blast on my grandaughters XR 100 all the time) . Truthfully the only reason I'm holding back is that if I get this one that'll pretty much close the door on any other opportunities that might show up, like a 175 or 250 or another 360, any of which are at the top of my list. Gonna have to make a decision pdq though.........

A couple of years ago I had purchased two different 1978 Yamaha DT 100s. I paid $100 each. Neither of them ran. They were complete ( 1 dirt - 1 street ). My honest opinion look for a CT1, unless it's a father son project..

In 1974, I'm pretty sure the DT100 was extremely similar to the DT175... except for paint/decals gas tank might be the same as the 74-75 DT175? (not DT125)

Radiator shop might be able to boil out tank and remove liner. Some can seal tanks too. The old fashioned nasty paint remover will remove old liner too but it's harder to find now.

You might try going to look at it and if interested at all offer a top offer $300 cash on the spot considering all the issues, difficulty finding parts, etc.... and just thank him for his time and walk away if he says no or tries to negotiate.

Thanks ASCO, $100 bucks apiece, that's a deal I'd jump all over! Never see any old bikes around here, running or not, for less than four or five hundred and most are considerably higher than that. I'm still mulling it over but leaning towards passing on this one, and hope that I stumble onto something more in line with what I'm really looking for. I'm waffling like an old man, oh wait.....

Thanks Mark, thats good info on the tanks. I've been wondering if the old liner could be removed. I don't think he'll drop the price any more. He says that's as low as he'll go and he only came down that far after it sat un-sold for a couple weeks. But ya never know so if I do decide to drive down and take a look I'll see if he'll budge.

You never know. Especially after trying to sell a while. Easy to be tough on holding price firm on the phone or email/text with someone who might never show up.

A lot harder to say no to someone standing there with cash in hand and ready to haul it away for a fair price... and $300 is very fair in my opinion.
