Cleaned Carb now won't start. was created by bhepp15

I cleaned the carb on my 73 Dt3. This was my first time doing this but I made sure to watch and read a lot on how to do it. I took it off the bike took the float bowl off removed the jets and cleaned the parts. I made sure all of the jets were clear of any debris and put everything back together and reinstalled the carb on the bike. I also made sure both screws were back in the right position. The carb is getting gas because I removed the line and I could tell fuel was getting in there. There is still a spark but the plug seemed dry. Not really sure what I have done wrong. Anyone have any ideas. I've been troubleshooting it all day and decided it was time to ask for some insight.

Usually when i encounter a problem like this ill shoot a little bit of gas in the spark plug hole or just something to make it pop. By doing this you are bypassing the carburetor and you'll know for sure if its carb or spark. My best guess as of right now is maybe you put the floats in upside down and its not letting any gas go to the cylinder?

The floats I did not put in upside down as I have a picture of how they were when I took the carb off but the tab I suppose I could have reinstalled upside down. I will have to take off the carb and check it out thanks.

Make sure you didn't leave a rag in the intake...

Another thing is slide in wrong... listen for "thunk" when closing throttle. If slide is stuck open, it usually won't start... which is a good thing.

I checked it out and the floats nor the tab are upside down sadly. And also there was not a rag found in the intake :haha. The float bowl was full of gas and the part the goes to the head seemed to have a thin film of fuel. So I am pretty stuck for the moment. The pilot jet hole did seem to have a puddle of gas on top of it which I thought should have drained out through the hole. I will clean that out and make sure there is no debris blocking that.

I do indeed have spark. The spark plug is dry though so for some reason the gas is not getting to the plug. I attached some images of the carb so maybe someone will see something off. I think I'll order a rebuild kit just to make sure I have a good pilot jet it is a little stripped.

Don't buy a kit for jets - Mikuni/Yamaha still do them. Also, if you haven't done so already, replace that little 'O' ring - also still available.

You'll be too young to recognise him, but from here in the UK............

Looks good. And yes, do not buy a "kit" for jets!
