I ordered new points and condenser for my '77 DT100. How do I actually get the condenser off? I cannot see how the wires disconnect. The wires are on the blind side and I'd rather ask here before I break something. I've already taken the Philips out and tugged as hard as I dare. Thanks guys!



BTW, this is what the old points look like. Think this is why I've got no spark? ;)

Had my 1977 Enduro 100 since 1982. My son just dragged it out of the barn.

I probably mentioned it before but cleaning the points usually fixes no spark. Not a bad idea to change them when they get bad like that but cleaning them up probably would have resulted in spark.

On the condenser if you got the original type it should have pigtails on it. If you didn't, then the wires need to be cut as long as possible and soldered to the new condenser. IIRC the original pigtail type has only one wire that needs to be soldered and the other connects to points. Routing and protecting is critical.

I'm not sure why, but these are not like old car condensers that you need to replace every few thousand miles... they last a long time and take some work to change... I have several bikes on original condensers. I don't change them unless they fail. (Modern aftermarket condensers are not too reliable in my experience which is why I don't mess with them unless they need replacing... OEM should be good but can be hard to find and sometimes expensive)

Pigtail condenser still needs to be soldered in but you splice wires ... I would only use the original pigtail type on the later bikes that came that way.
