MARBLE MOTORS 68' DT1 - 1969 AT1 PEARL WHITE MIS-MATCH COLOR PROBLEM was created by asco
A $450 quart of Marble Motors "Pearl White" DT1 / AT1 when placed against a known original 800 mile fuel tank there is a pretty serious base coat color mismatch. Professionally applied at a body shop that has done numerous motorcycles called the owner / builder to come look at the color discrepancy. This is not a hundred dollar mistake, this rolls into the thousands, as the whole process needs to be corrected because it's not accurate. To make things worse Mr. Marble in Texas was contacted after 8 - 10 years of buying $450 quarts of paint, does not want to own up to a mistake.
There is one very upset professional builder / restorer who will not settle for CLOSE ENOUGH. He refuses to let any motorcycle leave without his stamp of approval.
To be continued after I have the opportunity to compare the known original parts against the freshly painted and striped parts.
NOTE: about 75 - 100 bikes came out of this shop in the last decade. I have not heard of this problem or issue until yesterday when I asked; "HOW ARE THE 68' PARTS AT THE BODY SHOP COMING ALONG?"
to be continued...............
asco asked - whew what a $1800 materials/labor paint mismatch issue that will invariably go into the $3600 range, because their simply are not 68' fuel tanks to order or buy.

I've had several bikes painted through Marble Motors. Seems to me that Randy told me that the colors were not meant to be exact matches with oem colors, but as close as feasible with modern paints. Randy's colors are probably more bolder and brighter colors. No dog in this fight but it's common for Randy to tell someone that his color's will not work as touch up applications for the factory finishes, they are a different color.
$450 a quart? I'd want the color to be right also. Randy did send me paint samples for his red, grape, silver, etc. for the asking.

I've had several bikes painted with Marble Motors. Seems to me that Randy told me that his colors are not an exact match for oem . They are brighter and bolder and as close as possible with the difference in the paints between then and now. He told another buddy the same when he sent his red 250 parts to him. His touch up paint is for his colors and not for the factory colors. I did get paint samples from him prior to sending in my parts for several bikes, red, grape, and silver.
Pricey mistake if the color is wrong however.
