Part Buying Advice for New Enthusiast was created by BubbaSendsIt
Greetings Friends!
I am enjoying fixing up a new-to-me fully original 1972 DT250. It runs like a beast already. I am a big guy, vertically and horizontally, and it is shockingly zippy. At 45 mph up a hill it felt like there was still plenty left in the tank I wasn't ready to tap into until I get new tires and fix some of the issues.
The rear sprocket is looking dodgy and there is some wiggle on the bolts. I am not sure if a repair is possible so I tried to find a new one. Partzilla doesn't have it, but does for some close similar models. Are any other part #'s compatible? I could only find one exact match on Ebay and it said the seller was away and I could only sign-up to watch the item. Whatever that means.
I did buy a fuel petcock valve off Ebay that claimed an exact match and it looked right in the photos only to get it and see right away it was about twice as long it should be.
What are my options and what do most people do here? Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I browsed through the Market section on this site but couldn't find a way to search it.
Happy Riding!

I see this inexpensive rear sprocket on PartsGiant that says it fits a 1972 DT2 250 Trail. I am not familiar with the 'trail' modifier but I assume that is my bike. There is an option for 39T or 44T saying that both fit. But the Yamaha part has 42T I thought.

Stock sprockets for a DT2 are 14 / 44 . If your sprockets are worn , as you say ,
you should replace both , and fit a new chain at the same time . A worn chain
will wear new sprockets pretty quickly .

Thanks Swoop. Good idea about doing the front sprocket too at the same time. I found a new original front sprocket 18$ on Ebay. The chain was easy to find too. But I still have not found a rear sprocket that I am sure about. Where would you look for that if the usual spots came up short?

You won't find an OEM rear sprocket anymore .
If you aren't overly bothered about keeping original sprockets appearance ,
Parts Unlimited do one to fit . The weight relief cutouts look completely different ,
but functionally will work just fine .
