Battery info for 1980 dt 125 enduro was created by Philbrown123

Okay so I know what battery I need but I’m unfamiliar with 6v and acid etc. do I need to charge the battery before installing? If So a good charger suggestion? I’m pretty sure all my wiring is in tact I have gone through all of it and looking at it it looks in tact. I do know that the reason my bulbs keep bling on the tail lights etc is due to the battery but my headlight blew as well it worked fine the first few rides so is this going to help that or do I need something else also. Just confused and probably over thinking it.

Ordered a battery from our local Carquest, it needed to be filled with acid which was done in my garage. Then trickle charged it for about 8 hours. If you pick up a new charger make sure your setting is on AGM and on the lowest setting to trickle charge.

Wet Batteries should be what they call "dry charged" and will actually mostly charge when you add acid.

If you don't have access to a 6v low amp (1 amp or less) battery charger it will be okay to add acid to full lines... let it sit on the bench for a few hours... battery voltage should now measure just above 6 volts... (for reference fully charged is 6.3 to 6.4 volts...) and then ride the bike... that would be better than using a too-powerful or wrong charger.

If the battery voltage does not measure at least a little above 6 volts a few hours after adding acid then you should charge before using.

Some auto parts stores carry the 6 volt Battery Tender chargers or Amazon would have something.

So I’m assuming I just hook the red from the rectifier and the black that was zip tied on the right?

From my understanding of it red from the battery positive should have a fuse heading into the main loom red. But also have a second red going to the rectifier. Negative from the battery should also head into the loom as black. Loom earth 'as black' should be earthed at the coil mount under the tank usually. I'm sure i'll be corrected if wrong.

That later DT175 has a circuit breaker in the red wire near the battery. Rectifier is up under the tank.

Manuals that show the circuit breaker are in the Tech Library

I will add that if the circuit breaker is messed up... and many are... you can use the fuse holder from the earlier models or something from a parts store. You need a working fuse (or circuit breaker) right after the battery as RT325 said.

So the black goes to the coil under the tank and the red goes to a fuse that goes into another red that goes under the seat. I bought the bike for 100 dollars and haven’t messed with the wiring much bought a tail light hooked it up and headlight and tail light worked but blew the bulbs soon into it so I got to looking on here and see the battery helps keep bulbs blowing

The black just need to go to a good clean frame ground. Main one is under the tank. Could be done elsewhere. I can't get near mine right now to see if there is one closer than under the tank.
