Clearing out the old carbon that gets built up over the years, especially on bikes that were never ridden hard, and didn't get hot enough to burn things out on their own. Shouldn't need to wash it out if you got it hot enough.

Easiest way is to toss it on a nice hot campfire in my opinion, but that may be out of the question depending on where you live. If there is a lot built up, it'll smoke and smell a lot, enough to bother neighbors if they are close by.

You could take it to a spray wash or just a high-pressure nozzle water hose. If it's hot outside you could just hang it up to dry. If there's any grease you can use a little bit of brake clean. But for the most part just get all the rust off of the outside with a wire wheel on a drill. Make sure you have safety goggles at all times. Then get yourself some high heat black paint. Preferably something in a satin finish.

I hope you find this information useful.
