I need to clean out the gas tank and eventually get it painted. How do I remove the petcock?

Thanks! Just what I needed. There are 2 pieces of rubber... 1 is an O-ring under the bowl and one is under the valve handle. Both seem to be in excellent condition, but should I replace them just based on their age?

Yes, I always replace since 55 year old rubber may not seal well. I also replace o-ring on top of fuel petcock & banjo bolt washers. YDS Parts in UK has quality reproduction parts.
Good luck!!

You are my new best friend!
Just curious. Why replace the ones on the banjo bolts? They are hard and don't move. Can they wear out?
Should I also replace the strainers if they also seem to be in good order?

I replace banjo bolt washers as they harden over time which can create another opportunity for fuel leak.
If strainer is not damaged I'd reuse it.
Thanks
