1971 CT1 175 noise at drive sprocket was created by kickstand

Hi All, newbe here to the yamaha enduro form. I picked up a vintage 1971 CT1 175 it appears to be in very good condition, I chanded the oil and now the the main drive sprocket makes a cliking noise when rolling in neutral sounds like somethings going on inside. Anyone have an ideals what it could be?

Thanks

Welcome! from the UK.

Any chance that you could post photos of the front sprocket with the chain cover off - might just be that new chain and sprockets is needed. Better still, post a short video!

Yes if possible a video audio of it happening would be good. Can't see any relation to the oil change, but on the face of it--it sounds like a tooth off inside which is very unlikely. By any chance has it dropped a chain & damaged or wiped off completely the selector drum end which is under a triangle shape cover directly above the sprocket. If the little three screw triangle cover is intact then it won't be 'that'--well--unless the cover's been replaced & has nothing under it. No19 in the link gets smacked off if the chain derails & takes everything with it on the extension of the drum & lets the drum move sideways & two gears can touch dogs that shouldn't so could go clackity clack as you rolled it along. As i say--unlikely but so is a tooth off unlikely. Have you got it in neutral properly or maybe found a false neutral between other gears. Not a real neutral but a half movement between any other gear from two to five. www.babbittsonline.com/oemparts/a/yam/50...09bc7842e8/shifter-1 Oh, & welcome by the way.

Thanks guys for the quick reply on this, sounds like im in the right fourm here. RT325 you are correct it was in a false neutral, Thanks.
I noticed that it does that often when i stop and put it down into first gear and go to take off its in neutral. is there anyway to pevent that or some kind of ajustment?

If you put it in first there's nowhere else to go so shouldn't strike a false neutral. Not sure what else to say except check what i originally said about damage if its thrown a chain & bunched up there. Otherwise might need to look at the stop screw & stuff on the change arm behind the clutch. Can possibly see the screw without clutch off but won't be able to adjust it. There's an arm with a roller high up behind the clutch that bears on the drum pins. But the neutral possition is a half movement controlled by a ball & spring under a 17mm hex hollow bolt on the left high up on top--"by memory".

The bike that I recently purchased was making a noise as I was pushing the bike. I removed the chain. Soaked it for several hours in gasoline. There was a ton of sand in the bottom of the container. I oiled the chain and soaked that too. I allowed it to sit overnight flat like a snake and then I wiped it dry and I put it back on the bike and the noise was gone. Make sure your chain is not making noise and you're mistaking it for internals. I hope that helps.
