Spoke Nipple Help was created by dwil4
1979 MX 175....Bought front and rear spokes sets and the rear set came with the big nipples and washer's. They are bigger than the factory nipples and they won't fit through the holes in my rear wheel. Does anyone have some they would sell or know where I could buy some? Or....I think I do have a set of the old ones I took out if there is someone on here that would be willing to re-plate them for me...

What’s the hole diameter on the rim and the nipple diameter of the two in the photo. I may have some new ones.
Thanks Mark

Are the spokes a bigger gauge with larger thread. That's important before buying smaller nipples that won't screw on. Make sure the length is ok too. Depending on your aim--factory restoration--i'd probably drill the rim bigger.

The spokes I bought had the correct part number on them and when laying beside the old ones they appear to be the same as factory.

Might be a part number error Yamaha made... hub is the same as the IT175 and YZ125 of the era. The larger spoke nipples with washers were used on the aluminum wheels which the IT and YZ came with.
Not sure what part you bought but the 401-25304-20-00 set might be the correct ones as all the bikes listed have the steel wheel.

Don’t think you’re the first person to encounter spokes being labeled wrong.

I feel pretty sure that it isnt the spokes, just the nipples that are wrong. The bag with the rear spokes wasnt sealed like the front spoke set was.

Were the spokes labeled factory Yamaha or aftermarket.
Thanks Mark

They look to be the same size. The old nipples I took off will screw right on as they should. The spokes I bought are labeled Yamaha.
