used parts? was created by unclejtl
where do you guys and girls buy your used parts? so i'm going thru the bike I just got and decided to check the points so I removed the cover and water poured out. apparently someone got carrier away with the pressure washer.... see picture. I have found a complete lower end on ebay for $160 with what I need. it just seem prices are high on ebay. I would rather call and talk to someone and support a mom and pop business.
thanks
thanks

A wanted advert here is a good first option. However, also look at fleabay, Craigslist etc to get a feel for prices.
Depending on what you're after, include in your search words such as "lot", "miscellaneous", "hardware" etc, as some breakers will lump a load of parts in together and what you need might be included there. Always a good idea to check out what the part you're after looks like - always use more than one source for this. Some fleabay sellers mis-describe what they're selling (not usually deliberately) and so you need to be on your toes. CMSNL is particularly good for photos and I believe that Partzilla also has some.
Hope this helps.

Depending on how many parts you need, I always keep my eyes open for complete parts bikes. For example, I needed a front fender and a complete air filter assembly for a JT that I am resfurbishing. Those parts being sourced individually would have exceeded $100. For $200 I was able to pick up a fairly complete parts bike that had the parts I needed, and much more. I am fortunately that I have space to store parts bikes without too much trouble. Finding all the missing pieces can be part the fun in restoring these old bikes. Good Luck!

Yamaha parts are sturdy. You may initially look at that stator and the governor and think it's junk. But, with patience, cleaning, a soda blaster, you can refurbish that stator and it will work just fine. You're not going to find a plug and play stator, chances are a clean one on eBay is going to need brushes, so you'll be out the cost of a clean looking stator and face another $70 for a brush set from Indonesia (not kidding). I've resurrected WAY worse looking AT1 starter/generator sets than what I'm seeing in your photo. At least the parts ARE THERE and the way the wires are run to the stator, it looks really unmolested.

thanks. yes I'm trying gingerly to get it apart to clean up. 2 brushes are stuck. been soaking in wd40. I did see the brushes from Singapore on ebay. I found a complete lower end on ebay, so its coming my way, can't have too many extra parts. may be able to help someone on here some day. I will keep my eye out for a complete parts bike. my wife's gonna love that! hahaha

Let us know how it works out. I don't know what crosses over but I have a '74 dt125 engine in a Tupperware, I just needed some kickstart and clutch parts off it, didn't open the other side.
