1971 DT1 MX Restoration Question was created by dk3966

I have a 1971 Yamaha DT1 MX that I am in the process of restoring. When I got the bike mostly apart I noticed that the side (kick) stand was touching the swingarm when the bike was up on a MX stand. I never noticed it before. Should the sidestand be rubbing the swing arm? I assume not. Does anyone have any experience with this issue? If so how did you fix it?

My DT400 does the exact same thing. For now I simply found a large rubber washer that I slipped over the foot of the kickstand to acts as a damper between the stand and the swing arm. My future plan is to have my son put a spot of weld on the pivot tab so that I can take a grinder and shape the bead of weld to act as a raised position stop, preventing it from pivoting all the way against the swingbarm.

The kick stand is traveling too far back.
You can build up the metal with a welder in one of these two locations.

I had simular problems with my RT kick stand. The bracket for mine had been broken sometime in the past and welded back on. I ground out the old weld, welded back in position and added weld the bracket to stop the kick stand in the correct position up and down.
