seat repair was created by yamahoper

I had a 2 sided rip in one of my DT400 seats, about the size of a quarter. The Wife commented " you should try and fix that before it gets bigger". So I looked on E-Bay for a repair kit. The reviews were poor for the cheap kit that was for sale from about 20 sellers. I tried Amazon and there was a 3M kit and also a kit from Permatex. I went cheap with the 3M about $9 delivered. Permatex was about$19.
The kit came with backing cloth, glue, multiple color top coat, iron with texture transfer paper. I did use the backing cloth. The size of my tear was on the cusp of using it or not per the directions. There is a 4 hour dry time after the application of the glue .

Picture = backing cloth and glue applied.
The directions say to apply the top color coat ,choose a similar grain card put it in place, heat the nickle size iron to 300 degrees with a clothes iron on med high for 30 seconds. The nickle sized transfer iron is mounted to a wooden dowel the size of a short pencil. In haste I used a turbo torch to over heat the iron. UGH!!
I probably was closer to 500 degrees , the paper burned right into the top coat.
I tried to pick what I could out of the mess with my finger nail.
I decided to apply another coat and not heat the iron as much.
A real botch job.
I will have to live with the marginal outcome.

It could have turned out much better if I would have followed the iron directions.
I think the kit is good at a good price.
Only time will tell its durability?

If it keeps the water out and the pan from rusting, all is well.
