Can do away with the lighting coils & just earth the source coil on its own for mx. If the source coil is in a bad way then 'oh well' still gonna need one sorry. Could fit a later model CDI mag complete off a DT400 near the end of the run or a DT250 as went CDI in "79 i think. For that matter a points mag of a DT250 of any year [love points mags].

Your mag just looks crusty.
Pull the points and condenser and check coil continuity.
Now’s a good time to get an ohm meter if you don’t have one.
Sand the rust off the coil faces. It won’t be pretty but might work.
The service manual has a pretty good diagnostic section on the ignition,
you can find it in the docs.

To have it restored? I would send Deet a Private message and ask him. He does Quality work from what I have seen and it is hard to go wrong with him.

I fitted an RT2MX small rotor mag onto a rough old Kitted DT1 that was traded in at work & used it for a while between selling one bike & waiting for the new model to arrive. Man that bike was quick & the mag worked a treat plus saved weight. Any of those mags--DT2MX [small rotor points] RT2MX cdi small rotor or even MX250, MX250B YZ250C & more except the C & think later had a retard built in at high revs which sort of killed things unless the motor is designed for it. Anyway--where was i [lost lol].

Hey there, I’ve got a 1970 dt1f 250. It’s got a pretty rusty magneto and won’t run. Is that something you can restore?
