I'm in the process of fixing up a 1977 Yamaha IT175 and was thinking about how much fun it would be to ride around town or to work in the summer. (Winter in MN right now...)

Does anyone know if there would be any concern about damaging the bike by riding it around on the city streets/highway? I don't have a lot of two-stroke experience and would be very appreciative of your knowledge.

Shouldn't be any problem at all, so long as it's road legal (including tyres).

Nothing but a few funny looks from people as the 2-smoker puffs out your exhaust..

Hopefully you can get it licensed and insured for street use. Every state is different.

Tips? Wheelies from stop sign to stop sign are normally frowned upon by the authorities..

IT is premix so prudent to carry oil and some sort of way to measure/calculate how much to add to the tank after filling up at a gas station in case you run low on fuel. I carry a few of the little 2 ounce "energy shot" bottles (original label removed) filled with two stroke oil double-bagged in HD ziplock bags in the tool pouch. 2 bottles per gallon is 32:1 and pretty easy to guesstimate accurately... say you put in 1.5 gallons that's 3 bottles of oil to add... 1.75 gallons would be 3.5 little bottles of oil to add.

Not a street bike so not the best handling... good DOT tires are a plus.

Not good to "compression brake" a premix bike with throttle closed for a long distance so pulling clutch and blipping is a good idea on road or off... Not too common on road to have a long downhill that you ride with throttle completely closed so probably not something to do or worry about. More likely off road where you have a gnarly steep downhill that you have to take slow.
