72 DT2 250 was created by GarysDT2

Retired boomer in Virginia restomoding the bike my dad bought new for me as a teenager. I wrecked it on the street doing something stupid and it has been a basket case for over 50 years. I have been going through a downsizing phase and had to make a decision about what I was going to do about the bike. I agonized between selling it as is with many parts in excellent shape or going for the restoration. My heart won out over my head so I'm going for the restoration. Watched many restorers on YouTube and hopefully with this forum I will be successful.

Welcome and good luck with your restoration. You'll want to put on a regulator to prevent blown lightbulbs per this tsb. www.yamaha-enduros.com/index.php/service...e-voltage-regulators

That was quick! and thanks for the response. I read what you suggested and this won't apply to me if my plan works out. Part of the "mod" of my restomod is to convert to a 12VDC electrical system and leaving the ignition system intact. One question I have that I haven't been able to figure out from the schematic is there is a white wire in the bundle coming from the stator that I can't account for in the drawing. I know there is a white wire going to the original rectifier where either the Daytime or Night time charging circuit is selected but that comes from the ignition switch. I looked in the forum to see if that topic has been discussed but couldn't find anything that specific. I'm a newby so should I just post this in the main topic section to see if any gurus out there know the answer?

If it's  a white wire that's unattached, it may be the wire to increase the charging rate on the battery. See page 93 of the service manual for details. www.yamaha-enduros.com/index.php/service...360cc-service-manual

Great that you still have the bike, even if it's in boxes!

I agree with pahiker re the spare white wire. Also, there will be a spare black wire exiting the stator harness about half way up. This is not an earth, and if you connect it to other black wires your bike won't run! Apparently it's for testing some aspect of the ignition system.

You will, of course, be replacing both sets of brake shoes! New ones are still available from Yamaha and CMSNL and Partzilla should have the current part numbers. I can't be sure, but the originals might contain asbestos, so take care with their removal and disposal.

Was watching 2Vintage on YouTube last night the episode where he is working on a DT2 360. He was resolving an ignition issue and was tracing out the electrical system and he pointed out that the white wire I was asking about was not connected. I read your suggestion and I'm grateful for it. The 12VDC rectifier/regulator I'm going to try for the electrical mod has 2 AC inputs so I'll connect the white wire and the green/red wire (night time charging circuit) to those inputs.

There isn't any point in attaching both wires . They are fed from the one coil ,
and are just connected at different points of the windings .
The white wire will give the maximum output . the two together will still only supply the same output .

Thanks for checking behind me. I'm going to use the Yellow Headlight circuit and the White wire as my 2 AC inputs.
