Hello Everyone. I live in NE Kansas and just pick up a 1972 DT2 250 8,000+ miles on it from a neighbor, for FREE-fifty. It was originally purchased in Japan new while in the Navy and brought back, thus the sticker on the front fork.
Since, he let his son have it, who ran it all around the farms around here. He list the ley, cut out the ignition switch and wired it to bypass. His son has long since grown up, and got himself some new toys, wishing me the best on bringing it back to life.
This will be a project for me(44) and my son(15) to do together, when there are not other things to be done around the house and land, school and work, so this wont be a speedy restore.
Initial quick go over.
The engine has compression. Missing tail light and rear turn signals. No battery, just a mouse nest in the battery box. lol The rear wheel is seized up, makes me think the brake shoe is rusted to the drum. It was leaning to its left for several years. Gas tank is rusty, but not rusted. No drive chain. Old tires. Missing mirror and rear rack. No ignition switch.
This may seem like a large hopeless task, but there is a catch. My neighbor who I got this from knows a farmer who also has one to get rid of for free out of his barn, for any spare parts I may need.
This will be my second bike and also second vintage rebuild/restore. My other and first is a 1971 Honda CL350.
I have worked on mowers and vehicles my whole life, out of nesseity.

You should be able to get all the parts that you need ok through fleabay, partzilla, CMSNL and from members here on this forum. See also the link to KDI on the right side of the page.
There is a service manual in the Tech Library - see top toolbar.
Being an import from the Japanese home market, it might have an extra red light (and associated wiring) in the top of the headlight shell - this is to indicate when 80 KPH has been exceeded! If the original KPH speedo hasn't been swapped out, it might also have a red line at 80 KPH.

Thank you for the welcome and the addition to this forum. cmsnl is a fantastic site and was truly helpful with mu cl350. my headlight bucket dose indeed have the red light indicator, but not the speedo. i will certainly be downloading the service manual. thank you again.

Just to confirm, the headlight shell had 2 holes in the top. For US bikes, the front hole housed the red light for high beam warning and the rear one had a grommet to blank it off. On Japanese home market bikes, the rear hole had a larger red light in it, with some sort of gubbins attached on the underside.

Seeing as your wiring has been hacked about , you should be aware that the wiring was different between
US market models and US market models . For you it would probably be easiest to replace the wiring loom ,
ignition switch and handlebar light switch . That parts bike might be a suitable source .
