DT125 spark advance - any hope? was created by 4n6Days

I have a 74 DT125 (444) with a hopelessly rusty timing advance cam. Is there hope of finding one? I guess maybe a better question is is there another option over finding a used good one VS. the $500 Vape ignition. Which, for this bike there are too many other unknowns to get in that deep this early :-)

What is it exactly about yours?  If you can jam it open and leave it that way it will be fine.  It's only used to retard for starting.  Once engine is running, it's at full advance.  Advance part is not really important.  And you "might" even be able to get timing set correctly with advance closed and locked closed.  Not sure about that but they do have quite a bit of adjustment so maybe?

Thanks Mark,

I thought the timing advance had a more active role, thanks for the education!

Unfortunately, in my situation, the cam itself is badly pitted. I'm toying with trying to epoxy it, because I don't have much to lose at this point.

Only bad point without it retarding is the starter might kick back & resist if the battery isn't right up. Just leave the throttle closed if its a good idling bike & she'll start with less chance of kick back. If you use kickstart only it won't be an issue.
