Today, I pulled the magneto and discovered points on my new to me '74 360DT. I was expected CDI!  Did CDI box sit under left side cover?. . . .  So apparently the bike was converted at one point. Would someone have simply pulled a stator plate from a 250 bike? Here are a few pics . . .anyone have any tips for this set up? Stator plate/points need to be cleaned up - ok to clean with electronic spray? Set up point gap/time same per 250? Attached are a few pics - on the stator plate are these numbers FZA-1BL

Electronic spray is fine.

Set timing to 360 specs.

Thanks! I think I am going to bind together loose delaminated paper insulation on the ends of coils by pinching with tweezers and applying crazy glue drops. Will most likely use DeOxit for cleaner (good stuff!) and a little dremel cleanup. Did previous owner just swap over a 250 bike plate or maybe older 360DT plate? Lets hope bike fires when I get this mess back together - I am curious about what changes were made to wiring harness -so far, I cannot see any . .

I don't know stators that well for the bigger bikes.  What flywheel do you have?  Numbers on it might identify what you have.  Usually flywheel needs to be matched to stator to get spark.

There was no older 360DT...  they were RT's...  and had a bigger OD on the flywheel that will not fit in your DT360 cases unless someone machined the OD of the flywheel.

Hmmm...  and now that you mention it I think the 74-on stators all had the two stator coils instead of three...  Where is DEET when you need him?

And your comment about hoping it fires up makes me wonder if you have a flywheel that will work with that stator?  I'm guessing now that it never ran?

Might be worth investigating what flywheel you have before you spend too much time cleaning it up.

Thanks, pulled plug, plenty of evidence of it running -it's just been awhile. I will check mag/flywheel for id markings.

Of course it ran at some point.  Bad CDI is a major reason for a DT360 not running and converting to points is a great fix in my opinion.  But a points stator needs the correct flywheel so you might need parts or a complete ignition.

Stator appears to be a CT175, (3 coil) mag appears to be a 125cc model (4194) unless this mag was used with other cc bikes too -
