77 DT400 Rear Swing Arm was created by DaytonaBarnFind

Replaced the rear swing arm bushings and the swing arm still has too much play.  Does anyone know the dimensions of both the frame and swing arm?  My swing arm with bushings is 7.75 Inchers, and the frame is 7.875? The end caps appeared to be in good shape, and replaced the factory shims, that sit between the swingarm and end caps, which are very thin.

Hopefully the pic links work?

Do these seem correct?  Any other suggestions to tighten that up?  Thank you..

I guess the new bushes & parts that run within are new & a good fit--running clearance & no more--so shouldn't be play in 'those' parts. So you're referring to clearance at the end 'ends'. Can you just add a washer each end to fill the gap, or if it's not much gap just a washer one end which in theory may miss-align the wheels slightly but more in 'mind' than in reality. Correct me if i'm not understanding the story fully.
In the end the arm bolt needs to be very tight so its keeping the center spacers solid so the arm turns on them. If when tightened fully the arm goes solid & won't turn then--we have another problem, for the next story. Best of luck.

What about the inner sleeve?  It should be longer than the bushings and stick out slightly on each side so sleeve is pinched tightly when bolt tightened.

Shims are then used to adjust side to side play of arm on inner sleeve.

Mine seemed flush (inner sleeve) with the bushings.  My original bushings were disintegrating, so it was hard to tell for sure.  With the new bushing the inner sleeve has many have ~1mm protruding. I'm more worried the frame is bent.  Will Torque the nut down again and see how much free play there is side to side and if required add some think washers,

Thanks for the info..

FYI on my 78 DT400 the swing arm had some extra movement but discovered the bolt was actually moving in the frame. In other words the bolt had been left loose and wobbled the frame holes out somewhat. I fixed that, got a new inner sleeve, bushings and made sure the caps were in good shape. No shims needed and it all bolted up nice and tight. I made sure to test with the mono shock disconnected so I could verify the swing arm moved up and down freely when the bolt was torqued.

That's a good point, and will confirm.  Thx for the suggestion.

After tightening up to the proper torque, it seems to be good. When it warms up and I mount the rear wheel, I will know for sure.
